About DIY and the Silverfoot Wind Initiative

DIY or "Do it Yourself" is a broad-based movement to reconnect with the sources (and resources) of a meaningful life. By getting involved with the building blocks of commerce, culture, art and technology we can reconnect with the energies which fuel us.

The opposite can be said for our modern, global economy. In the rush towards efficiency we tend to forget the real costs of constant growth and obsession with productivity. In so doing we run the risk of losing touch with the basic relationships that have traditionally made human life meaningful.

Here is a nice video of Hugh Piggott and his community in Scoraig. Off-grid proponents are some of the many different types of student who have benefited from Hugh's workshops.

The Silver Foot Wind Initiative is a not for profit organization with the aim of exploring grassroots options for wind power adoption, policy change, and increased knowledge about wind in Nova Scotia.

The "Build your own Wind Turbine" workshop, running this April, is a hands on course, meant to empower individuals at all levels to take energy production into their own hands. Rather than leave the production of wind machinery to factories half way around the world, often yielding cheap, poor quality products, this workshop seeks to construct durable, effective wind generation using local Nova Scotian materials.

Please consider coming to the the workshop, inviting a friend, or coming to the final day of the workshop to see the finished product.

Yours,

Jonathan McKeever and the SilverFoot team
